Giant Checkerboard Cichlid
A rare treat to the trade, the giant checkerboard cichlid is shy and peaceful. These fish are appropriate for small to large aquariums and do well in community fish tank settings. Wild caught on the border region of Peru and Brazil, their entire ecosystem is in peril. Due to overpopulation around the Amazon region a major highway will be built this decade through the Amazon connecting Brazil and Peru and spelling an end to a vast part of the region. Giant “dwarf” checkerboard cichlids are at their best in a peaceful planted community tank with lower Ph. They eat flake and pellet food. These fish are best kept in small groups.
